Part III of the build...

09/06/13

I have always found it a pain to turn up to events as I have to dissemble R2 Legs and dome from the body so it fits into my car boot. Once I got to the event I then had to reassemble which is always problematic. So I thought I needed a "Quick Release System" for the legs. This is my first step to that goal.

Quick release for the centre Leg and foot.

Below is the quick release hub and boss from a racing steering wheel. My quick release Centre foot idea implemented ready for CE2!

Attached to the Centre Leg and Foot.

Just the foot locking mechanism.

The theory is the 2 halves meet and and with a simple twist they lock together.

I did all of this pre-CE2 so if it didn't work it was going to be a real issue. Well I am happy to report that it did work and it worked perfectly. I drove R2 around for most of the 3 days at CE with no issues at all. The Hub and boss seemed a little flimsy so was expecting a bit of wear when I inspected it after the event. Again it was perfect no wear at all! I am really pleased with the result so I am planning on using this method for the bits as soon as I have worked it all out ;)

"General Veers prepare for a Celebration Event!"

"My people will get right on it..."

..Ok I need to fill the above in and quick! It will out line what happened at CE2 and how the droid perform etc.

More Recent Updates Coming...

2014

A quick catch up and progress report. The Quick release centre foot has been a huge success so far! There does not seem to be any wear or loosen of the fixings and this is after CE2 and several other events throughtout 2013. I know of a few other builders planning in following this method, whether they will admit it though we will see... ;)

Memmorabillia NEC

M80 performed as usually well actually better not fixing to get it move this time! The only problem encountered was the Omniball at the rear of one of the feet kept jamming and dragging on the floor. Once removed all was good although I am wondering what's the point of them as no detrimental effects occurred minus it?!

A Change of Mind...

I have had this for a while now but have made little headway so it is time to push on and get my spare head ready! Yes I have decided to give the droid an alter ego, as an R6 unit (Thanks to Richard!). As it is sharing M80's body the colour scheme needs to be the same so here are some early tests.
